14/10/2006 Ultimate skills day - Leicester.
EMO will once again be hosting skills days aimed at beginners and intermediate players. The first of these will take place in Leicester on 14th October at 11am. Beginners are particularly welcome.
The aim of the day is to teach some basic principles to beginners and intermediate players. Everyone is welcome and even players with a few years experience found the sessions last year useful.
There are some drills and tips that will help you to improve the following:
- Basic throwing & catching technique - Cutting & effective man-to-man defence - Forcing and breaking the mark - Bidding & Reading the disc
These will be followed by some games where you can put your new found knowledge into practice.
For more information, please check the EMO website [http://www.emo-ultimate.org.uk/clinics.html] - note that the dates are for last year but the rest of the information is the same.
Notes:
Please be at the park early enough that you can be booted up and ready to start at 11am. Please bring light and dark shirts, a warm hoody/coat, cleats/boots, water and some food. Bin liner and waterproofs are always handy!
12/02/2006 Boogie Knights retain the Midland Winter League trophy.
The final standings were as follows:
More stats and individual match results are on the MWL pages.
03/04/2005 UTB place 2nd and 27th in the B Tour at Bristol.
In the first good weather this player can remember at a Bristol event both UTB teams put in commendable performances and produced some great play. After taking all of their early games easily and then moving steadily past a solid Trigger Happy and hard running ABH a poor start in the semi finals against Tenacious Devon cost the first team promotion to the A tour, something they now hope to achieve at Tour 2 in Mansfield. The team then came back strongly against a tired, but spirited, Paddy Murphy to take third place and some silverware. Well done in particular to Wookie who took the team’s MVP in his first tournament for UTB.
The second team struggled in their first few games mostly due to inexperience both as individuals and as a team. Some great individual play brought a few points but no close games. This all changed as the event went on. Growing in confidence, and with the addition of some old hands on the Sunday the team was able to put some flow together, leaverage their excellent D and take 2 wins against Sheffield Steal 2 and Devon 2 and were unlucky not to be able to close out a third game against Sublime.
A special mention should go to Nat and Laura who picked up for one of the women’s teams and therefore played more than any of the club’s hard men :-)
13/02/2005 Boogie Knights take MWL 2005 dropping only two games. Full results will be added to the MWL section soon but final positions were as follows:

16/01/2005 Gav and Andy from UTB hosted the Midlands qualifier for the National Indoor Championships at the NIA Community Hall in Birmingham.
Congratulations to local team Kamaya Maya for winning the tournament and to UBU for beating a UTB team cunningly disguised as Spearmint Hippos (presumably to avoid embarassment) in the Plate final.
Full results were as follows:
> 16th Skunks 1 - SPIRIT WINNERS > 15th uBu 2 > 14th Skunks 2 > 13th Mohawks > 12th Lords of the Ring 2 > 11th Stourbridge > 10th Spearmint Hippos > 9th uBu 1 - PLATE WINNERS > 8th Bangor Badgers > 7th Disc Hunters (Hope the guy with the shoulder is ok) > 6th Lords of the Ring 1 > 5th Rusty Caius > 4th Slippery When Wet > 3rd Discuits > 2nd Ex-Fingers 6 > 1st Kamaya Maya - CUP/BALTI DISH WINNERS
28/11/2004 Si Statham and Andy Godber organised the 4th Great Barr Crawl Indoor Tournament.
In announcing the results on Britdisc they wrote:

Running this tournament for the last 4 years is only part of the great contriution Si has made to Ultimate in Birmingham despite a career ending injury to his knee. In recognition of his services to the club there was a special presentation on Sunday when the team ‘retired’ his squad number - 99 - and presented him with a framed shirt. Si is moving to London in the new year and we wish him well. We’ll miss his organisational abilities and hope that he’ll return in the autumn for at least one more Great Barr Crawl.
01/10/2004 Once again UTB will be hosting the Midlands Winter League.
See the MWL page for more details.
16/06/2004 Fifty Hour Ultimate Challenge
Rather incredibly there is a world record for playing ultimate non-stop:
WFDF Records Page
Even more incredibly some guys at UTB wanted to try and break it!
The attempt took place on 12/13/14th June 2004.
Well the guys did it, along with some help from fellow players from Lords of the Ring and a couple of spectators who also got roped in! 51 hours and a bit. Unfortunately a bunch of even madder players in Alaska chose the same weekend to play for over 61 hours. Commiserations to the players from the West Midlands, who through dint of better organisation in sending off the paperwork did officially hold the record for a couple of days!

Look out for STHUC, the Seventy Two Hour Ultimate Challenge, coming to a sports pitch in the UK soon (well as soon as everyone has recovered the use of their legs and forgotten how much pain fifty hours was!).
